Update (because there are still some people who visit this page, apparently!!!)
For those unaware, this page was previously the home of "Rectangular Speech Bubbles With Pointy Corners", a series of weekly blog posts about the Marvel Transformers comics of the 1980s and early 90s.
The amount of work I put into the site got a little too much for me, so I decided to delete the posts, with the aim of putting the site out there as an ebook.
In the end I was able to find a publisher willing to buy the rights to my work (a lovely company called Telos, who have released a huge slew of cult-pop-fiction tie-ins, including books about Doctor Who, Thundercats, The Avengers and Battlestar Galactica). And expand it to include a guide to the Transformers toys and cartoons, on top of the comics.
For those who never managed to read the blog when it was active, let me tell you a bit about the book (coming in 2018). It's been renamed as "Transform and Roll Out!", which I think is probably a little catchier than "Rectangular Speech Bubbles With Pointy Corners".
It takes a detailed look at every issue of the old G1 Transformers comics and cartoons, containing reviews, credits, synopses, and a series of detailed notes. If you ever wanted answers to questions such as "How old is Spike?" "What's up with all these drill tanks?" "How many Galvatrons are there?" and "What's the origin of the Constructions?" then I think this book might be for you!
There's a whole host of original research in here as well, including a guide to the broadcast dates of the G1 cartoons in the UK, as well as a look at comic sales data for the Marvel UK Transformers comic (including a comparison with its main rival, 2000 AD).
Copy-editing is still in progress, but as of today (29 November 2017), it should be completed in the next couple of months, for a release date in the first half of 2018. Feel free to follow me on twitter @theryanfrost or keep an eye on the Telos website (www.telos.co.uk) for further updates.
Cheers x
